Grand Forks Public_ recently wrapped up its most successful Summer Reading Program to date, and the results are truly worth celebrating. This year, 1,079 enthusiastic readers joined forces to log an astounding 882,254 minutes of reading—shattering last year’s record of 750,000 minutes. The surge in participation not only highlights our community’s deepening love for reading but also marks a triumphant return to the library. We’re thrilled to share that door traffic has returned to pre-pandemic levels, signaling a renewed connection with our patrons and a vibrant atmosphere that filled our spaces all summer long.

Kicking Off a Summer of Adventure
The excitement began on June 1 with a lively kickoff event that set the tone for the entire summer. From the very start, it was clear that this year’s program was going to be something special. Each week, we rolled out a series of themed activities designed to captivate readers of all ages. Whether it was diving into art days, exploring the wonders of space with NASA-themed events, or testing wits in puzzle competitions, there was always something fun happening at the library. Our goal was to create an experience that went beyond books and brought the joy of discovery to life—and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

A Grand Finale to Remember
As the summer drew to a close, we knew we had to go out with a bang, and our Grand Finale on August 1 did just that. The library was buzzing with excitement as attendees enjoyed free Brain Freeze ice cream treats and explored interactive booths hosted by local partners. The Grand Finale was more than just a celebration of reading—it was a community gathering that highlighted the strong connections we’ve built with our patrons.

Something for Everyone: Diverse Activities and Clubs
One of the keys to this year’s success was the variety of activities we offered. We wanted to make sure there was something for everyone. Participants had the chance to get hands-on with FIRST LEGO League Robotics, explore the cosmos with Astro Camp, and get their hands dirty in Garden Club. We also hosted specialized camps focused on writing and sewing, giving kids and teens the opportunity to dive deeper into their interests. Our ongoing clubs and storytimes provided consistent engagement throughout the summer, while unique offerings like Pokémon Scavenger Hunts and visits from READ Dogs kept the enthusiasm alive week after week.

In total, we hosted more than 160 programs at the library, drawing in over 5,500 attendees during June and July.
Looking Ahead to Next Summer
As we reflect on the success of this year’s Summer Reading Program, we can’t help but feel a sense of excitement for what’s to come. The enthusiasm and energy from our community have inspired us to dream even bigger for next year. We’re already brainstorming new activities, events, and surprises that will make the 2025 Summer Reading Program our best one yet. Until then, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this year’s program. You’ve made this summer one for the books, and we can’t wait to do it all over again next year!
